Frequently Asked Questions
-
No — you can get in touch directly, no referral needed. If your situation involves anything that might benefit from medical input alongside therapy (for example, certain psychosexual concerns), I may suggest speaking with your GP as well, but that's a conversation we'd have together, not a requirement to start.
-
That's completely normal, and it's not something you need to solve before coming. You don't need a polished explanation of what's wrong — "I don't really know where to start" is a perfectly good place to begin, and often tells me something useful in itself.
-
Yes — sessions are available online via Zoho or Teams, in person at 17 Park Place LS12SJ, or a mix of both, depending on what works for you.

You don't need to know this before you get in touch — it's something we can work out together. As a rough guide: individual therapy is for anything you're navigating on your own; couples therapy is for working on the relationship together; and psychosexual and relationship therapy sits alongside either, when intimacy, sex, or desire is part of what's going on. If you're unsure, just reach out and describe what's bringing you here — I'll help you find the right fit.
-
Yes. It's common for one partner to be more ready than the other, and that doesn't have to stop you starting. We can begin with individual sessions focused on the relationship, and your partner is always welcome to join later if and when it feels right for them.
-
The first session is mostly about getting to know each other — what's brought you here, what you're hoping for, and whether it feels like a good fit to work together. There's no pressure to have it all figured out in advance; I'll ask questions to help it unfold naturally, and you're always in control of what you share and when.
-
Yes. What you bring to sessions stays between us, with a small number of legal exceptions — mainly if I believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm, or where the law requires disclosure. I'll always talk this through with you at the start, and again if it ever becomes relevant, so it's never a surprise.

I'm a qualified counsellor and a registered member of BACP. I'm currently training in psychosexual and relationship therapy, working towards registration with COSRT, and I practise this work under regular clinical supervision throughout. I think it's important to be upfront about this — you're welcome to ask me anything about my training or experience before we begin.
-
It varies a lot from person to person, and depends on what you're working on — some people find a handful of sessions gives them what they need, others prefer longer-term, ongoing work. I don't work to a fixed programme or promise a set timeline; we'll review how it's going together, regularly, and you're always free to adjust or end as suits you.
-
No. Genuinely — whatever you're carrying, there's a strong chance I've heard something like it before, and if I haven't, I'll meet it with the same openness. Most people who come to this work have been sitting with something privately for a long time before they reach out. This is a space built specifically so that doesn't have to continue.

I ask for at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or rearrange a session, so I can offer the space to someone else. Sessions cancelled with less notice than this are charged in full, except in cases of genuine emergency, which I'll always consider individually. See more here
